TRAJECTORIES OF EXPERIMENTATION: GENRE MODIFICATIONS OF TURKISH SHORT STORIES OF FIRST HALF OF 20 CENTURY

In the article the author analyses the genesis and originality of the development of the Turkish short story in the 20th century, relying on the experience of previous researchers in the context of studying the evolution of Turkish prose. Defining stylistic modifications to the genre of the novelette, The investigator examines in particular the works by Said Faik Abasyanyk («Woman from the Swallow’s Nest», «The Watcher»), Omer Seyfettin («Charity», «Camel»), Refik Khalit Karai (“Yatyk Emine” ), Suat Dervish («He»), as well as Aziz Nesin («What’s Next», «Letters of the Killed Donkey»). On the illustrative materials of short story the author gives examples of genre modifications of the Turkish novel of the first half of the 20th century, characterizes the functional features of a psychological, socio-psychological, fantastic and satirical novel; explores the ideological and thematic dominants, style strategies and genre models of these novels.
