Abstract

The article investigates the peculiarities of the artistic representation of the human corporality in the novels by Lyubko Deresh. The category of corporality as one of the main postmodern notions arising on crossing of the physical and cultural human existence is outlined. This notion is affirmed as a result of overcoming of the strict opposition of the sole and body characteristic for classical European philosophy. The peculiarities of the artistic world of Lyubko Deresh is revealed in this investigation.
Two parallel plans — everyday and metaphysical — are the cornerstone of this world. The link of this principle of modeling of the artistic picture of the world with the romantic tradition of the Ukrainian literature is traced. The human body in Lyubko Deresh’s novels gets the meaning of the space opened for the influence of both life measurements. The acquirement of the transcendental experience becomes
possible only through mediation of the body as the physical reality of the human existence. The death and revival are the leading constants of Lyubko Deresh’s artistic world. In many cases the author treats the death not as the end of the physical existence but as the prospect opening the new opportunities
for the life and knowledge. The writer consecutively accents on the individual transcendental experience and, respectively, on its character because the body is an important constituent of the personality. The achievement of the other life measurements is realized through pain and body disintegration generally
characteristic for postcolonial person (T. Hundorova). In the same time the constant of the decentralized body in Lyubko Deresh’s artistic concept serves as the sign of the physical world’s ephemerality. Everyday plan of the author’s works contains numerous images-agents of the metaphysical reality the essence
of which can be comprehended only by the heroes-outsiders. Spiritual revival of the hero, interpreted as an output to a different level of consciousness, creative insight or being after death, occurs in a certain isolated place. In writer’s artistic world such a closed space (lonely house, cellar, room) corresponds with the human subconsciousness, the centre of intuitive, spiritual life. However, the process of revival in author’s works is represented by the metaphors of the corporality first of all pain, wounds, body transformations. Thus, defending the primacy of mental Lyubko Deresh accents on the human corporality as the reality which provides the process of cognition.
