Abstract

The article deals with the analysis of existencial concept of fear in epic works by Roman Andriyashyk “Intimidated People”, “There is No Way Home”, “Poltva” and “Storonets”. The problem of intimidated people, facing social and national suppression, personality neglect under the pressure of totalitarian regime, the fear of personal insecurity and vulnerability of a person in the contradictory world with
its constant rivalry of the good and the evil is one of the central problems in the writer's creation. Declared itself in literature novel “Intimidated People”, Roman Andriyashyk continued the process of destroying stereotypes of socialist realism — the method, the apologists of which “the authors full of fear” wrote “ideologically correct” works with the characters “without fear or reproach”. The tragic events of World War I are in the center of the novel “There is No Way Home”. The writer focuses on the intrinsic value of human life — a life of the individual and the Ukrainian nation in general. The basis of “Poltva” novel laid in the historical fact of the existence of an underground university in Lviv in 1920–1925s in conditions of occupation of lands of Western Ukraine by Poland. Filth of muddy river in the novel grows into a symbol of corrupt life, subordinate social iniquity. The novel “Storonets” reveals the way of life of the writer Yurii Fedkovych who refuses military career, Catholicism and turnes to Orthodoxy, in Ukrainian culture.
