WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE’S SONNETS IN DMYTRO PAVLYCHKO’S TRANSLATION

The article is devoted to the analysis of Ukrainian translation of William Shakespeare`s sonnets made by D. Pavlychko. The history of Ukrainian translations of Shakespeare’s sonnets is revealed; creative individuality of D. Pavlychko as a translator emerges brighter as a consequence of comparing his interpretation with I. Kostetskyi and D. Palamarchuk`s translations. The attention is focused on the principles of D. Pavlychko’s translations, on the issue of the author’s own poetic world in the “Sonnets of Podilia Autumn” and borrowed one, as well as on the aspiration to balance these two hypostases in one person.
