The author of the article considers drama by Oleksandra Pogrebynska “In Memoriam of Galatea” as a comedy with tragic final. Mythological image of genial artist who is in love with his own creation is understood as a timely one, that can become an angle for consideration of the number of problems, solving of which interests young generation, who enters literature and search for the guidance in selfidentification.
The central strategy is re-interpretation of the myth, using its opportunities to concept the modernity, in particular those questions which are timely for the young generation: about the essence of creation and artist’s status in society, life creation, interrelation between high-minded and earthly plans of existence. The basis of individual style may be seen in paradoxicality, miracles, unification of different axes of coordinates in artist’s interpretation (high creative work, ordinary life, love etc.), synthesizing of comic and tragic modes, struggle with canonicity or established concepts about sign figure, myth creation. The image of hero-artist is based on the core of traditional structures — mythical and literature archetypes.
