FEATURES OF THE STRUCTURE OF TWO NECTARIY TROYANOVSKY’S TEXTBOOKS ON POETIC (KYIV- MOHYLA ACADEMY, 1723/24 and 1724/25 ACADEMIC YEARS)

Abstract

In the article, the author compares two handwritten courses of lectures on versification (poetics), which Nectariy Troyanovsky in the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy has read: «Apollo pharetratus...» [Apollo with a quiver] (1723) and «Via poētarum...» [The Way of Poets] (1724). The first of these is introduced into scientific
circulation. The comparison is carried out at the macrolevel; the general features and the structure of the manuscripts are analysed. Both courses consist of three parts, which deal with the same range of issues: the doctrine of poetic art,
the theory of correspondence and the basics of rhetoric. The second and third parts in «Via poētarum ...» are changing places. At the level of sections, the course of 1724/25 academic years has a structure that is radically different from the poetics of the previous year. By comparing courses at the level of the paragraphs, we noticed that some issues are present in both of them, some in only one, and a large
part is formulated in different ways, broadly in the «Via poētarum ...».
Thus, at the level of structure, two Nectariy Troyanovsky’s courses of lectures have both common and distinctive features. The teacher is based on his poetics of the previous year, substantially changes its structure and creates a new course of lectures.
