THE HISTORY OF ONE DEVOTION: AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL DISCOURSE OF THE NOVEL “THE MARCH OF YOUTH” BY VITALY BENDER

Abstract

The article analyzes the autobiographical discourse as the strategy of the organization work of art on the material of Vitaly Bender’s novel “The March of Youth”. It determines the nature of initiation, placed by the author at the beginning of the novel and its function with respect to the ideological and problematic product content of the text. It analyzes the historical path of the First Division of the UNA,
in the ranks of which the writer was involved in the fighting of World War II in Europe. It is noted the presence in the product of certain eventful plot conflicts, correlated with specific trends in historical and social picture of the era that compare the events depicted in the work of the facts of the biography of writer. The article identifies the role and functions of using of markers of the autobiographical novel
in the structure of the text, selects characteristics of autopoetics. It is noted the uniqueness of the role of the author’s image of Ukraine and the Ukrainians in World War II. The complex of poetical dominants realized in the novel “The March of Youth”, enables to affirm the ideological affiliation of Vitaly Bender to the ideological and aesthetic discourse of Ukrainian emigration literature of the postwar period.
Autobiography appears as the special feature of author’s idiostyle. The writer tried to maintain the accuracy in the mapping of details and sentiments of the era and the society.
