RHIZOMATIC CHARACTER OF NATION-CREATING HISTORY IN THE WORK BY VASYL KOZHELYANKO “KONOTOP”

Abstract

The article deals with rhizomatic character of nation creation history in the work “Konotop”
by V. Kozhelyanko. The writer reveals nation creation history by using the “rhizome” category. Rhizome as an organizational model finds its use in the postmodern textual criticism, particularly constructing alternatively historical works. In the work, three rhizomatic groups have been highlighted: chronotopical, articles in periodicals and virtuality of the historical development of Ukraine. The chronotopical group includes the transition from the present time and space into the past with the help of karmaportation as well as all chronotopes that occur in the work. The second rhizomatic group is actually the reports on the BBK — the Big Battle of Konotop. The third group consists of ten virtualities of Battle of Konotop. The work clearly shows, that the creation of the nation identity is significantly influenced by historical
memory, the paid-out manipulation of people`s consciousness and realization of lternativeness
of historical development.
