THE MEMOIR-NOVEL “MUSEUM OF THE LIVING WRITER” BY VOLODYMYR DROZD: COMPONENTS OF NATIONAL IDENTITY

In the article, the author analyzes the concept of “national identity” and “national idea”, defines the components of national identity, using the theoretical works of predecessors and main features of national education: the territory, statehood, the legal equality of the representatives of the nation, common national culture and civil ideology. Theoretical generalizations, obtained by reviewing the critical material are used by the author as a ground for the analysis of the views of the Ukrainian writer V. Drozd on national identity and its preservation in the conditions of the totalitarian Soviet regime. In the process of study, it was determined, that V. Drozd believed that culture and especially national language was of special importance for formation of the Ukrainian nation. He also paid his attention to the national character (mindset) of the Ukrainians in which V. Drozd saw the cause of many tragic events
in the history of the Ukrainian people.
