The article examines the concept “literature environment” according to the peculiarities of expression of art and the way of existence of literature art in society. The great attention is paid to a subject
of art (soul, mentality) and its implementation in the literature of historic epochs, particulary typology
of “Ukrainian soul” is analyzed. It is examined ontological environment of literature which is determined by psychological, social and cultural preconditions.
